Cystic fibrosis has long been defined by limits - shortened timelines, difficult treatments, and an uncertain future. For many families, the journey begins in childhood, often captured in the well-known “65 Roses” story - a young boy’s attempt to pronounce a diagnosis that would come to shape his life. For decades, that story reflected the reality of CF: a disease that too often cuts life short.
Today, that reality is changing.
Medical advances have extended life expectancy, allowing more people with cystic fibrosis to reach adulthood than ever before. But longer lives have revealed a new set of challenges; ones we haven’t been prepared to address. Adults with CF are now facing complex and serious health risks, including gastrointestinal disease, chronic inflammation, and significantly increased rates of cancer.
Changing Futures was created to meet this moment.
Our work is focused on advancing the research needed to better understand and treat these emerging complications. By directly funding scientists and studies in areas often overlooked, we accelerate progress where it matters most - closing critical gaps in care and improving long-term outcomes for people living with CF.
At the same time, we are committed to building a more informed and connected community -one that reflects the evolving reality of cystic fibrosis today. We believe progress should not stop at survival. It should extend to quality of life, long-term health, and the confidence that the future is being actively redefined.
Changing Futures exists to ensure that as the story of cystic fibrosis evolves, the science, support, and strategy evolve with it.
